Global Village School student Alena produced the following excellent historically based poetry as part of her World History course:

Gift of the Nile

Herodotus knew Egypt

As the gift of the Nile

For when the river flowed strong

All of its children smiled

The river gave its people

Good, rich earth to farm

Gave them water to drink

And protected them from harm

The Nile taught the people

About joy and strife

But it was primarily

A great source of life

Global Village School 10th anniversary party May 22 from 1-4pm!

Global Village School will be celebrating its’ 10th anniversary on Saturday, May 22 from 1-4pm at the Global Village office.  Stop by the office at 207 N. Ventura St. in Ojai.   There will be food, live music, good company, and the new K8 “Whole Child, Healthy Planet” curriculum will be on display.  We hope you can make it!

Global Village Graduate Produces Radio Show on Tribal Issues

Michael Preston was Global Village School’s first graduate. He is an activist, writer, traditional dancer, college student, and son of the spiritual leader of the Winnemem Wintu tribe. Mike co-produced and narrated this radio show (http://www.radioproject.org/archive/2009/1909.html) that details the recent history of the Winnemem Wintu, their relationship to the federal government, their struggles to protect their sacred sites, and their quest for justice.

Global Village Receives Grants for Earth Charter-Based Curriculum

Global Village School recently received grants from Wishworks Inc. and two anonymous family foundations. The grants will support development of a new K-12 curriculum centered on the Earth Charter, a declaration of fundamental principles for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society. The Global Village Curriculum will be formatted for use by schools, groups, and homeschoolers, and will combine a creative, flexible, student-centered approach with a learning styles focus. Modern media, technology, art, music, nature, imagination, and story will be integrated into the courses.

Global Village School has provided an accredited, customizable K-12 homeschool diploma program to students around the world for 9 years. GVS offers online and text-based courses, personalized curriculum options, and individualized teacher services. Grounded in the belief that knowledge and understanding are the keys to a true global community, GVS offers a full diploma program and college preparatory classes that empower students to be wise and capable stewards of the planet and each other.
